About Us

In the summer of the year 2000, Maritoni started Danspace in the basement of her parent’s home. Her goal was to provide personal training to young dancers, sharing with them her wealth of experience of more than 10 years of professional dancing with companies both in the Philippines and abroad. Encouraged with the success of her first summer dance workshop, Maritoni continued to offer classes throughout the school year. Over the years, Danspace has had grand recitals at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Little Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City. The school has participated in mini-recitals at the grand ballroom of the Manila Polo Club, the Kids Expo at the Rockwell tent, the Baby Lactacyd Village launch at Market! Market! and numerous Association of Ballet Academies (ABAP) Danseries concerts.

Danspace trains children from 4 years old and above. The school uses the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet syllabus, a training based on the Russian Vaganova method of classical ballet founded by former ballerina of the Australian Ballet, Christine Walsh. Maritoni combines this method with open classes inspired by her training and exposure to the Russian, American and English styles. The school has a 9-month school year period from July to March and a 2-month intensive Summer Dance Workshop from April to May. The school works closely with the Sayaw Foundation and extends scholarships to gifted and deserving students. In 2008 and 2010, through their joint effort, one of Danspace’s scholars became a finalist in the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). She is now a company member of the Philippine Ballet Theatre.
